Facebook has officially announced that the “Why am I seeing this” feature, will be rolled out gradually on a global scale starting today which will provide users with various information as to why they are seeing certain posts on their News Feed directly from the app, as well as from their very own website. Not only that, but the new feature also provides various control options to help users customize their News Feed to their liking.

Contrary to popular beliefs, Facebook does not actually benefit from fake news, nor do they determine what do you actually see on your News Feed. Instead, Facebook utilizes a rather complicated set of algorithms to determine what kind of post gets shown on your timeline as well as the ranking of those posts.

In order to access the new feature, simply tap on the triple dot icon on the top right of the post, and then select the "Why am I seeing this post" option. The feature simplifies the dataset to give the user a quick overview and educates the users regarding the various criteria that were met for the post to show up on their News Feed. These criteria include but not limited to the number of times you have interacted with the user, how popular the post among others, and whether it is a text post or video post.

Other than educating the users, they have also made customizing their timeline easier as the options such as News Feed Preferences and privacy shortcuts are easily accessible as well. The launching of this feature shows Facebook’s determination to remain transparent, in regards to how they manage an individual’s data. For more updates like this, stay tuned to TechNave.com.
