Facebook announced that SMS messages will no longer be available when you update your Messenger app. If you use Facebook Messenger as your default SMS messaging app on Android, this feature will no longer be available after the update on 28 September 2023.

In 2016, the Facebook messenger app came with SMS support. This feature allows you to manage, filter, keep and delete your SMS with one app. It is also available on Android phones for your convenience.

However, you will no longer be able to use Messenger for texting and receiving SMS by your cellular network after the effective date. That said, you can still access your SMS history via a new default messaging app. The same applies to texting and receiving SMS messages through your cellular network.
