Want to earn some extra income recently? Yesterday, Facebook announced that they will be offering to pay users for voice recordings to help improve its speech recognition technology after being caught transcribing without the user’s consent.

The company launched a new program called “Pronunciations” in its Viewpoints market research app. Those who are qualified will need to record each statement twice and be able to record the phrase “Hey Portal”. After that, you will be able to record the first name of a friend from your friend list and up to 10 friends.

Facebook will use the points system in the Viewpoints app to translate it into cash rewards. Each set of recordings is 200 points and you will need to earn at least 1,000 points to cash out which gives you $5(~RM20) cash rewards via PayPal. But don’t get your hopes too high, because the company mentioned it might offer users to record up to 5 sets of recordings only.

For privacy note, the recordings will not be connected to the users’ Facebook profile or share the Viewpoints activity on Facebook or other Facebook-owned platforms. As of now, The Pronunciations Program is made available to the US users above 18 with more than 75 friends only.

With that said, users from Malaysia may need to wait for some time to earn that extra income from Facebook. But will you be joining the program if it’s available here? Let us know at our Facebook page and stay tuned for more news updates on TechNave.com!
