Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil today announced that a total of 247 Sarawak Multimedia Authority Rural Telecommunication (SMART) towers have successfully been activated. The number is as of 15 May, with all the towers using the Multi-Operator Core Network (MOCN) technology.
As reported by Bernama, Fahmi added that all towers involved the services provided by CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile and YTL. Furthermore, the 247 is part of the 600 telecommunications towers planned to be built in Sarawak through several phases of allocations by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the Ministry of Finance (MOF) and telco companies.
