The Minister of Communications, Fahmi Fadzil has now announced that he will establish a special task force, which will focus on discussions involving the regulatory and enforcement aspects of social media platforms. This team will consist of the Ministry of Communications, the Ministry of the Interior, the Attorney General's Department, and also the Legal Affairs Division under the Prime Minister's Department.
For your information, it was also shared that, in an effort to deal with cyber bullying, SKMM is working to ensure that the licensing process of social media platforms runs smoothly. It is targeted to be implemented by January 1, 2025. The ministry has already met with several social media platforms, and according to the partnership, X, Meta, TikTok and WeChat have expressed willingness to be licensed.
