Fahmi Fadzil: Facebook, TikTok and YouTube agreed to remove over 159k harmful content in Malaysia

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has revealed that Facebook, TikTok and YouTube have agreed to remove 159,518 pieces of harmful content as of 11 June in Malaysia. He added that this figure was part of 174,473 online content takedown requests made so far this year.

Bernama quoted the Communications Minister as saying that the harmful content includes 51% online gambling, 25% scams, 12% cyberbullying and 9% fake news. Of these, 57% were on Facebook, 28% on TikTok and 13% on YouTube. 

Fahmi added that other social platforms involved smaller numbers, but the 3 aforementioned platforms represent nearly 95% of the overall problems on social media.
