Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has revealed that the Government currently has no immediate plans to develop a specific app as a step to enhance digital security and online safety. This is because there are already a number of apps readily available that can be utilised by Malaysians for that purpose such as Truecaller.
According to Bernama, Fahmi added that any procurement related to IT or digital tools must be decided by the National Digital Department under the Ministry of Digital. This is to ensure that public expenditure is done prudently and efficiently without waste.
The Communications Minister noted that he has received suggestions for the Government to develop its own digital security app but there are several aspects to be discussed first.
