Back in October 2024, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the move from a blanket subsidy for RON95 to a targeted one, touted for implementation in mid-2025. However, the move, which may use MyKad as part of its mechanism, has now been delayed.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil revealed that the RON95 targeted subsidy rollout has been delayed
This was announced by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil today, who was quoted by The Star as saying that the government is currently fine-tuning every aspect of the targeted subsidy. Moreover, the rollout is slightly delayed to ensure that its implementation will not have an adverse impact on the public.
“It is this process of fine-tuning that has resulted in a slight shift in the timeline,” said the Communications Minister. He added that Anwar, during the recent government retreat involving Members of Parliament, said that he wanted the targeted subsidy not to negatively impact the majority of the rakyat.
However, the Communications Minister didn’t specify the exact timeline of when the targeted RON95 subsidy would be rolled out. Until further info is available, do stay tuned to TechNave for more trending news.
