Fahmi Fadzil: Telegram willing to work with MCMC to combat scams and online gambling activities

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil today revealed that Telegram has expressed its willingness to work with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to streamline the regulatory aspects of the platform. These include combating scams and online gambling activities. 

According to Bernama, Fahmi met with Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov yesterday (2 March) to discuss issues involving the social media platform. Currently, Telegram has 15 million users in Malaysia. 

The Communications Minister added that the meeting with the Telegram founder and CEO took place in a positive atmosphere. They discussed the regulatory issue of the platform, new technology and AI. 

Fahmi also invited Durov to visit Malaysia himself to continue discussions with several parties involved. Accordingly, Durov also expressed his desire to expand Telegram’s operations in our country.
