During the Engine Lubricant Contribution Program yesterday, our local Minister of Communications, Fahmi Fadzil made a statement that telcos need to do better in providing affordable internet packages to taxi and e-hailing drivers.

To justify the move, he said the group (taxi and e-hailing drivers) use a lot of mobile data, so having affordable internet packages would ease their burden. Additionally, he urged telco companies to also facilitate their process to switch to a better plan later, such as only online without going to any premises.

Fahmi thinks as a starting point, the telco companies can first check the internet packages used by the 150 drivers who were present at the program yesterday. After checking, they should make a list and see from there what improvements can be made. Of course, he emphasized the priority of offering more data and cheaper subscription prices.

Meanwhile, Fahmi told the reporters that there is a need for the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to create a joint venture with taxi drivers in Malaysia.
