Fake WhatsApp staff are scamming users using a voice authentication loophole

It looks like a bunch of new hijacking methods have been spotted by JSJK PDRM on their Facebook page, giving us a better idea on how your WhatsApp account can be hijacked through a voice authentication loophole. The first method is where a hijacker would send the victim a message letting you know that your account has been compromised and they will need a 6-digit verification code to verify if you are the user.

After sending the aforementioned code, the victim will then lose access to their WhatsApp account, along with all the private and confidential information stored in it. If the user did not fall for it, they will then move on to the second phase, where the hijackers will intentionally input the wrong verification code until the app prompts them to verify via voice verification where the victim will receive a code through voice call.

If the user did not answer the call after several attempts, it will then be sent to their voice mail which can be accessed by the hijacker using a default PIN that’s usually set by the telco provider. If you want to avoid becoming a victim to this scam, be sure to activate two-step verification on the app and never share your verification code with anyone.

With all that said, what are your thoughts on the hijacking methods mentioned above? Let us know on our Facebook page and for more updates like this, stay tuned to TechNave.com.
