It's been a long time coming, but the Crowbar Collective's remake of Half-Life is about to get an official release. Black Mesa has been in Steam's Early Access since 2015 and its developer is finally ready to officially launch version 1.0 on 5 March 2020.

The fan-made remake was originally a mod of Half-Life using the edition of Valve's Source Engine behind Half-Life 2. Despite it being a mod, Valve gave the green light to the team behind Black Mesa to release the game independently. But Black Mesa is not just a remake of Half-Life with better graphics, the official launch version will also come with the Xen chapters that serve as the story between Half-Life and Half-Life 2.

While the game may be coming out soon, Crowbar Collective has promised to continually work on the game. A spokesperson of the company has promised that the company plans to support the game with bug fixes and other improvements. Since the game has a multiplayer component to it, balances changes and fixes will likely be an important aspect of the developer's post-release support.

So, who's excited to play Black Mesa when it releases? You can already buy the game in advance on Steam for RM38 and try the early access version.
