Farmers let their cows wear VR headsets in hopes to stimulate milk production

Virtual Reality (VR) headsets are developed for humans, you might say. Recently, employees from a farm in Russia teamed up with IT experts to use human technology product on the cows, in hopes to stimulate more production of milk. It seems like it somehow worked at a basic level by calming the cows. Let’s find out what kind of results they got doing the fun experiment!

The VR headset is said to be modified to fit the cow’s head structure so they could watch properly and ‘comfortably’. The colour of the VR shown to the cows has also been tuned as well to adapt to the animals’ eyes. The researchers are hoping that the cows would react positively to what they’re seeing, compared to the boring and confining farm.

It turns out that watching VR did help the cows by reducing their anxiety and boosted their moods. However, it is not sure how that can affect the quality or quantity of milk. There are already plans to carry on the experiment for a more comprehensive study.

Agriculture has been using technology to boost its productions for years. In America, the farmers would install automatic rotating brushes in the stalls to give the cows ‘a good massage’. There are also farmers who use robotic systems to ensure maximum movements for their livestock as well in Europe.

VR is an interesting technology to be used by people nowadays for you to experience being in another ‘world’. It is really cool to see that it can help the animals to ‘escape the reality’ too.
