Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Aziz has revealed that all 6 local telcos have reached a consensus on the access agreement with Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) to lease 5G services. The telco companies are Telekom Malaysia (TM), YTL Communications Sdn Bhd (YES), Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd, Celcom Axiata Bhd, Maxis Bhd and U Mobile Sdn Bhd.

Tengku Zafrul in a Facebook post lauded the 5G services access agreement, saying that soon, more Malaysians will have access to 5G connectivity in our country. Moreover, the Finance Minister said that the 5G network will spearhead the digitalisation efforts in Malaysia.

Previously, we reported that 4 of the 6 aforementioned telcos have agreed to take equity stakes within DNB. YES and TM both took a 20 per cent equity stake each while Digi and Celcom took a 12.5 per cent each. As for the remaining 35 per cent, DNB said that it has been retained by the government, which will hold a golden share.

According to Bernama, Maxis and U Mobile are understood to have decided not to take any equity shares in DNB. Instead, they will only be signing the access agreement to lease 5G services with DNB.

If the agreement and plans go as planned, DNB has confirmed that end users of all 6 telcos will be getting 5G connectivity from this month onwards. What do you guys think? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below and stay tuned to TechNave for more trending tech news in Malaysia and beyond.
