Apple has now added the first-generation iPhone SE to its list of obsolete products, meaning the device is no longer eligible for any repairs, battery replacements or other services at Apple Stores and Apple Authorised Service Providers (AASPs) globally. So, what should you know about it?

The first iPhone SE came out in 2016

For your information, Apple products will be considered "obsolete" when the company stops distributing them for sale for more than seven years. For reference, the first-generation iPhone SE was launched in March 2016.

Additionally, the design of this device is largely based on the iPhone 5s, with key specifications including a 4-inch screen, Home button and aluminium frame. Apple later launched the second-generation iPhone SE models in 2020 and the third-generation (2022), with both featuring a similar design to the iPhone 8. In February 2025, the iPhone SE was discontinued entirely and replaced by the iPhone 16e.
