The Immigration Department (JIM) today announced that the department, alongside the Home Ministry (KDN) is exploring the implementation of a QR code system at several main entry points in Malaysia. The system is meant to address congestion issues at the border.

As reported by Bernama, JIM director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh said that studies on the use of QR codes are currently being carried out and currently in the testing phase. Details of the testing phase will be further announced by KDN in due time.

Ruslin added that JIM and KDN are committed to implementing continuous initiatives to address congestion at the country’s entry points, even at air entry points. Previously, the Federal Government said that it is considering adopting a digital QR code system similar to Singapore’s at the CIQ complexes in Johor.
