Today, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has issued a total of 64 compounds worth RM3.2 million in the second quarter of 2021 to four telcos. Like before, Maxis, U Mobile, Digi and XOX Com got fined due to failure to comply with the numbering plan and electronic addressing as well as non -compliance with the Prepaid Guidelines for end-user registration.

Among the telcos, Maxis got fined the most with a total of 54 compounds worth RM2.7 million for the same reason as aforementioned. In addition, MCMC also issued an RM250,000 fine to U Mobile Sdn Bhd, followed by two compounds worth RM100,000 to Maxis Broadband Sdn Bhd (again) and two compounds worth RM100,000 to Digi. Lastly, XOX Com is charged one compound worth RM50,000.

As always, MCMC will take action to ensure that consumer rights are given priority in choosing a telecommunication company based on its services offered. From our past reports, this is not the first time either for the companies and MCMC urged them to be more assertive in complying with the guidelines set. Hopefully, they won't neglect the security aspects in efforts to curb crime cyber and consumer interests.
