Free GTA V resulted in a new wave of hackers and cheaters

Sometimes being generous isn't good news for everyone and it seems that's the case for regular Grand Theft Auto Online (GTA Online) players on PC. When the Epic Games Store announced that Grand Theft Auto V would be free, many were quick to jump on the deal and download the game. This brought in a flood of new players to the game, many who are hackers and cheaters.

As reported by Kotaku, the new influx of players include those who are all too keen on resorting to cheats, mods and hacks to play GTA Online. One player reported how he found a large number of planes, while another spotted a giant mech made from tanks and fighter jets. It was even reported that the GTA Online servers crashed a few times during the weekend. Overall, GTA Online PC players have had a rough time.

An abomination made out of tanks and fighter jets isn't something that should exist...

It's believed that hackers and cheaters are creating multiple accounts to get into GTA Online. With the game currently free, these players are less concerned about accounts being banned as they can just make more. Rockstar Games hasn't been doing much to resolve the cheating problems either, which is making the player base unhappy.

The silver lining is that this situation won't be permanent. Once the free distribution of GTA V is over, the bans from Rockstar will finally be able to catch up and things should go back to normal.
