Recently, it appears that Friendster’s domain name and trademark have been acquired by a new owner, who is working to redevelop the social service. That said, what should you know about it?

A better way to socialise

For your information, the new Friendster is being offered in the form of an app, for iPhone users first. The new Friendster emphasises real-world connections. To add friends, users tap each other's phones, and only then can they send messages or view others' sharing.

Additionally, this ensures that the contacts you add to Friendster are contacts you've met in person, rather than online. Indirectly, this also ensures that the social service remains positive and discourages unhelpful sharing.

Moreover, the app comes without any algorithms or ads. Currently, Friendster is only offered for iPhone users, and it is not yet known when an Android version will be introduced.
