Camera sensors comes in many sizes – from the smallest sensor in smartphones, all the way to full frame sensors in professional DSLRs. However there are larger sensors than Full Frame in existence – and Fujifilm just announced their first camera using it. The GFX-50s is the company’s first medium format camera – and it is a beauty.

With a megapixel count of 51.4MP – the most important aspect of the camera is the physical size of the sensor – it has nearly 1.7 times the pixel area than a full frame sensor, so it carries more data in every shot. The new camera mount comes with a slew of new lenses, which was also announced during the launch. The first three lenses, expected in 'Early 2017' will be: the GF 63mm F2.8 R WR, a GF32-64mm F4R LM WR and GF 120mm F4 Macro. The 0.79x crop means these are a 50mm, 25-50mm and 95mm equivalent, respectively.

A new feature of the GFX-50S is the clip-on pentaprism EVF, which is an EVF that slips into the hotshoe to give it a viewfinder for composition. The system will be available early 2017, with pricing 'to be below USD 10,000 (~RM 41000)' when it is available then.
