Based on a recent patent courtesy of patentlymobile.com. Samsung has filed a patent for an under display fingerprint sensor using ultrasonic technology. Based on the patent, the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor is expected to cover the bottom half of the screens which means the user can unlock their device by placing their finger anywhere in the biometric sensor zone as showcased in the image.

Not only that, the sensor doesn’t have to be placed under a display as it is flexible enough to be mounted on the rear of the display as well. However, there are no prototypes available at the moment to showcase this technology but we hope to see a prototype by Samsung showcased during either MWC2019 or CES2019 early next year.
