Great Wall Motor Malaysia has officially launched the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV, marking a major milestone in the company’s New Energy expansion in the country. The WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV becomes the first Chinese luxury New Energy plug-in hybrid MPV to be locally assembled in Malaysia. The launch event was attended by Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Sim Tze Tzin, alongside senior GWM executives, highlighting the vehicle’s importance to Malaysia’s industrial and automotive landscape.
The Hi4 Hybrid System
Powering the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV is GWM’s Hi4 intelligent hybrid system, which combines a turbocharged petrol engine with dual electric motors driving both the front and rear axles. The system produces a combined output of 442 PS and 642 Nm of torque, enabling acceleration from zero to 100 km per hour in 5.7 seconds. Intelligent Torque Vectoring Control actively manages power distribution to enhance stability and confidence across varying road and weather conditions commonly encountered in Malaysia.
Additionally, the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV offers up to 170 km of pure electric driving, supporting quiet and emissions-free daily commuting. For longer journeys, the total driving range exceeds 1000 km. Even with low battery levels, fuel consumption remains efficient at 6.2 litres per 100 km, supported by intelligent energy management and seamless switching between hybrid operating modes.
Interior Design
Designed around the concept of First Class for All, the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV prioritises comfort across all three rows. Measuring 5050 millimetres in length with a wheelbase of 3085 millimetres, the MPV features a flat floor and wide central aisle to improve accessibility and ease of movement.
The front seats are upholstered in Nappa leather and include ventilation and massage functions, while the second row features Zero Gravity captain seats with one-touch reclining. The third row is designed to comfortably accommodate adults, making the vehicle suitable for family use and long-distance travel.
The WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV delivers a refined cabin environment engineered for long journeys. At highway speeds of 120 km per hour, cabin noise measures just 63.4 decibels, achieved through double-glazed acoustic glass, structural insulation, and active noise cancellation technology. A 21-speaker premium audio system rated at 2440 watts is tuned specifically for the cabin, ensuring clear conversations and immersive music playback.
Beyond comfort, the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV is designed to support real-world usage for families and professionals. Wide opening doors and a spacious central aisle improve daily accessibility, while 11 USB charging ports ensure all occupants remain connected. The vehicle also features a 3.3 kilowatt external power output for outdoor or travel use, along with a built-in 12.5 litre hot and cold refrigerator that can operate for up to 24 hours even when the vehicle is switched off. Both features can be monitored and controlled remotely via a mobile app.
Comprehensive Safety Across All Rows
Safety is engineered into every aspect of the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV. The body structure uses over 83% high strength steel, with critical pillars reinforced using materials rated between 1500 and 2000 MPa. The roof structure is designed to withstand up to 12 tonnes of pressure.
Full-length curtain airbags protect all three seating rows, while the battery system has undergone 89 safety validation tests. The vehicle also includes Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems with more than 20 intelligent safety features.
Pricing, Ownership Benefits, and Warranty Coverage
The WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV is offered with carefully curated exterior and interior design themes, aimed at delivering a premium ownership experience. Pricing is set at RM 269800 on the road.
Early buyers will receive a complimentary second-row entertainment screen for the first 1000 customers. Standard ownership benefits include five years of free connected services data, five years of free maintenance, and a complimentary home wallbox charger. Warranty coverage includes a six-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty and an eight-year or 180000 km hybrid system warranty covering the battery pack, power motor, and control unit.
Local Assembly Anchors ASEAN Export Strategy
The WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV is assembled locally in Malaysia and serves as GWM’s regional export model for ASEAN.
