Samsung has confirmed that its tri-fold smartphone, the Galaxy Z TriFold, will be launching in October 2025, with a starting price of around US$3000, which is approximately RM13500.
What happened
This announcement was made during the company’s Q2 2025 earnings call, where Samsung also revealed plans to debut its extended reality (XR) headset around the same time.
The Galaxy Z TriFold marks a new chapter in Samsung’s foldable lineup, expanding beyond the current Z Fold and Z Flip series. The device is expected to feature a unique triple-folding design, aimed at delivering a larger screen experience while maintaining portability.
Samsung’s decision to launch the TriFold later this year appears to be a strategic move to stay ahead of competitors. Apple, for instance, is not expected to release its first foldable iPhone until late 2026.
With this launch, Samsung is reinforcing its position as a leader in the foldable segment by introducing an entirely new form factor ahead of its rivals.
Although the official tech specs have yet to be fully confirmed, several industry sources suggest that the device may come equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor (also referred to as Snapdragon 8 Elite), 16GB of RAM, and support for 25W charging.
The TriFold may also incorporate dual inward-folding hinges, which could offer enhanced durability by protecting the main flexible display when closed.
In terms of availability, Samsung is likely to launch the device in selected markets first, possibly beginning with South Korea and China. Wider global rollout details, including for Malaysia, have yet to be announced.
Possible features and specifications of the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold
Based on current reports and leaks, the Galaxy Z TriFold may include the following:
- Triple-fold design with two inward hinges
- Main display size estimated around 10 inches when fully unfolded
- Cover display approximately 6.5 inches
- Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 (Snapdragon 8 Elite) processor
- 16GB RAM
- 25W charging support
- Expected premium materials such as aluminium or titanium
What it means for Malaysia
For Malaysian consumers, the Galaxy Z TriFold could be one of the most premium foldables to date, targeting professionals, content creators, and early adopters.
However, the high starting price of RM13500 may place it in a niche category, especially if import taxes or regional pricing adjustments apply.
The triple-fold design could be a game-changer for multitasking, offering a tablet-sized display that folds into a more pocketable form.
If durability and battery life hold up well, it could become a strong alternative to traditional tablets or laptops for mobile productivity.
