The Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission(MCMC) is now testing a beta app called Gerak Malaysia that can identify every person that may have contacted with an Covid-19 Infectee by using location tracking. This will aid the Ministry of Health (MOH) in contact tracing.
The beta app is developed based on the same contact tracing models that were implemented in South Korea and in China. Once you’ve signed up with your basic details and grant permission to access your phone’s GPS, the app will start tracking your locations and generate a QR code. The QR code is generated for medical frontliners to determine your risk level on Covid-19 contact and allow the enforcing authorities to track whether did you traveled out of the permitted radius.
