The GoPro Hero line has almost always been the leader in lightweight and durable action cams especially with their new devices which include the GoPro HERO 7 Black, GoPro HERO 7 Silver and GOPRO HERO 7 White, each designed for different sets of users. Thankfully, we managed to get some time with the GoPro HERO 7 Black, so without further ado, here's our hands-on and first impressions.
Design - small and light as always
While the GoPro HERO 7 Black differs from the previous two generations of HERO 6 and HERO 5 action cams in terms of appearance, GoPro has also made small changes in the colour and texture. The same design language has been maintained though.

Tech Specs and Features - catching up with live streaming
Recently, mobile phone live broadcasts or live streaming have become a very popular way of video sharing. It allows broadcasters to show off what they are doing without having to edit or add special effects while also interacting with your audience for a worry-free kind of video sharing. The latest GoPro HERO 7 Black updates this feature to include live streaming, so you only need to connect to your phone's GoPro App to broadcast live!

To be honest, we feel that this added live broadcast feature is quite attractive as it supports both straight and portrait modes automatically (auto-rotate). It is quite suitable for girls and those who like to travel light to broadcast live as it is both smaller, lighter and more durable, so you don't have to worry about it accidentally falling and getting damaged.
Video functions - Hypersmooth super anti-shake
This time around, GoPro put in the new Hypersmooth super anti-shake or stabilization feature for the GoPro HERO 7 Black. This effectively achieves the same effect as a three-axis stabilizer but since it is built-in, it allows you to take stable and high-quality video even when underwater or in situations with high vibration or strong winds while reducing the overall weight of your equipment! Although the previous generation HERO 6 was already quite stable, the new Hypersmooth feature is even better and more improved, giving nearly the same effects as an external stabilizer. There's also a TimeWarp feature which makes a sort of animated gif that is easy to use.
Camera function - SuperPhoto
While most users will use GoPro action cams to record videos and movies, its performance when taking photos is not bad at all. This time around, the HERO 7 Black reinforces the existing still image taking capabilities with the SuperPhoto feature, which automatically adjusts the HDR, hue and noise reduction of the photo. If you don't want to do post-production, this feature will save you time and effort. The following is a comparison of the normal mode (left) and SuperPhoto (right).
The exposure of the sky, the shades and the color of the plants have been considerably adjusted, and the overall feel is more comfortable.
The shaded parts of the finished product shot with SuperPhoto are brightened, the details are captured with more detail, and the exposure of the sky is within a more acceptable range.
SuperPhoto is more versatile in processing clouds and sharper lines.

The GoPro HERO 7 Black is waterproof up to ten meters, and underwater shooting is not a problem.
