GoPro Hero 8 Black now has add-ons made for vloggers like a shotgun mic and flip-display

What makes the GoPro Hero 8 Black appealing for travel is the size, durability and quality. However, for most vloggers, it’s hard to simply go for that camera due to the fact that it lacks so many features needed for vlogging such as lighting and a mic jack.

However, this is about to change as the GoPro is adding a new line of accessories called “Mods” which essentially is a frame that will allow vloggers to add a higher quality mic, a small and powerful LED light and a flip-up display to their GoPro Hero 8 Black. The Mods are not sold together with the USD$399 (~RM1678) action camera.

The frame is a housing for the camera which contains a small, integrated shotgun mic, type-C ports, an HDMI port and a 3.5mm port built into it. In addition it also comes with two cold-shoe mounts for attaching other accessories.

Besides that, there’s also the USD$79 “Display Mod” which is a 1.9 inch flip-up screen which can be attached to the top cold-shoe mount. This is perfect for taking selfie videos and can be flipped down when not in use. The “Light Mod”, priced at USD$49, is waterproof and can light up to 200 lumens. Both of these come with internal batteries so it won’t drain the GoPro’s batteries.

GoPro has mentioned that the Light Mod may be sold as a standalone product due to its size and power. Also, we may be seeing more mods coming in the future for the GoPro which is definitely a plus for vloggers. Vlogging with large cameras is already pretty much a pain so these mods are definitely a welcome addition. Can the GoPro replace your standard vlogging cameras?
