Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo today revealed that there are now 17.5 million users of the 5G network in Malaysia, covering over 82% of populated areas nationwide. He added that his Ministry, through Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB), has provided and will continue to provide 5G infrastructure.
Speaking to reporters after officiating the Connected Industries Day: Transforming Manufacturing with 5G and Artificial Intelligence (AI) programme in Johor Bahru, Johor, today, Bernama quoted Gobind as saying that the high number of users indicates a strong interest in this technology. Moreover, the Digital Minister said that his Ministry would also like to ensure that all infrastructure is secure, particularly in terms of cybersecurity and data usage.
On data centres, Gobind asserted that the Government had not set any limits on data centre construction in Johor. However, the Government will assess the suitability of each investment before proceeding by carefully reviewing each application because, in the future, the Government would not only want data centres but also AI-powered data centres.
