Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo has assured that there was no data leakage during the global IT outage on 19 July despite government agencies being affected. He further revealed that in total, 14 Malaysian entities were affected by the outage, including 5 government agencies.

As reported by Bernama, Gobind said that the 5 government agencies affected were the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development, the National Institute of Health and the Kedah Zakat Board. Meanwhile, 9 private Malaysian companies were affected, including those in the aviation, banking and healthcare sectors.

The Digital Minister stressed that all data in the government sector are secured. Moreover, there has been no data leakage, and the government has observed no issues regarding data integrity.

However, Gobind said there had been a phishing attempt during the IT outage, which the government successfully prevented. He said several phishing domains were created by irresponsible parties to obtain information and gain access to specific companies' data.

The Digital Minister added that he had met with representatives from Microsoft and CrowdStrike to deliver a firm message that their security levels must be strengthened. He said Microsoft is currently preparing a full report on the incident and has been asked to consider the claims submitted by Malaysian companies that suffered losses and damages as a result of the disruption.
