Last September, Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo announced the establishment of a National AI Office that will frame the AI ecosystem in Malaysia. Today during the opening speech of the Malaysia Digital Xceleration event, he shared a little update about, where this AI Office will start operating as early as December this year.
During this speech, Gobind also stated that the National AI Office will focus on the development of algorithms, language processing for personal use, security for AI and the preservation of data privacy. Even the existence of this National AI Center is also based on 5 aspects covering care, management, enforcement, monitoring and innovation in the data industry.
In addition, the National AI Center will be under the supervision of MyDigital Corporation and for now there is no further information about it. However, with the announcement from Budget 2025 which also focuses on AI and allocates RM 50 million, together we look forward to more information about this National AI Center.
Moreover, he suggested establishing a Digital Trust and Safety Commission in the first half of 2025 (1H25). Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said the commission will oversee the development of a safe, secure, and trusted data ecosystem that fosters productive data flows.
"In this way, we hope to lay a robust foundation for the responsible and productive use of technology – both now and in the future," he said in his speech at the Malaysia Digital Xceleration (MDX) Summit 2024.
