Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo today revealed more details about Malaysia’s upcoming second 5G network. Speaking during the launch of the TNG eWalle e-Mas, Gobind said that telcos for the 2nd network will be selected by the end of 2024.

NST quoted the Digital Minister as saying that the share subscription agreement (SSA) with 4 telcos has been signed and completed. This paves the way for our country to transition to the 5G dual whole sale network (DWN).

He added that the 5th telco, Telekom Malaysia (TM) has until 21 August to get shareholder approval to complete the SSA. As for the 2nd 5G network, Gobind asserted that MCMC is currently looking at how the process can begin.

He further revealed that there is no set timeline for the introduction of the 2nd 5G network, but the Digital Ministry is hopeful that it will be made before the year’s end. Gobind said that after the agreement, the 2nd stage of the process is to see which telcos will actually build the new network.
