Google Assistant will now help you do interpretations on Android and iOS smartphones

If there's one feature that many travellers want on their smartphones, it's language interpretation. Google first rolled this out for smart speaker or display with Google Assistant, which was a weird choice since those aren't as portable. But according to 9to5Google, we are finally getting the feature on Android and iOS smartphones.

So, how do you use Interpreter Mode? For example, you could say "Hey Google, translate Mandarin for me" (because you're a total banana). Google Assistant would then start to listen to what the Mandarin speaker is saying and show you the translated text on your phone. It could also suggest suitable responses for you using Smart Replies, which should help you with conversing with the person you are talking to.

Having this feature on smartphones is great since we almost always have our phones with us. With the addition of the Translate button for Google Maps as well, you should far fewer problems when going on a trip overseas. Of course, this is assuming you don't visit a country with unsupported language/dialect. For example, Cantonese is still not supported yet. You can check this link for the full list of supported languages.
