Google Docs will now allow users to draft emails and send them via Gmail

Google is rolling out a handy feature to its Microsoft Word alternative, Google Docs. As part of the "smart canvas" initiative, the platform will provide users with an email template by allowing them directly draft emails to be sent out via Gmail.

Users can just input the @ symbol and select "Email draft" from the context menu to access the feature. A template will then show up for drafting the email, including defining recipients, a subject line, and the body text. After everything has been typed out, click on the Gmail icon at the side, and it will direct you to the email service.

The feature is said to be useful when users want to collaborate on editing an email. In Google Docs, they are also allowed to insert comments and suggestions. However, there's no harm for you to follow the traditional copy and paste method, but doesn't this make things simpler? The feature is gradually making its way to all Google Workspace customers and those on legacy G Suite Basic and Business plans.
