After the previous ‘AI at Work’ initiative back in December 2024, Malaysia’s Ministry of Digital and Google Malaysia announced their 2nd phase for Malaysia’s public officers. Aimed at boosting overall productivity by helping to summarize documents and streamline workflows, the 2nd phase of the initiative will see the implementation of Google Workspaces with Gemini for public officers.

This Google Workspace with Gemini suite of tools is now acessible to up to 445000 public officers at no additional costs. This deal will be available until at least 2028. Currently, those who have been trained will return to their respective government offices to help drive the adoption and usage of the suite for everyone else.

For those who don’t know, Gemini has already been integrated in Google Workspaces for Google’s various productivity plans. This includes Docs, Sheets and Slides with features that include help on writing and summarizing along with image and spreadsheet data generation. Notebook LM Plus also helps out with localized generative AI for better idea and note generation while Google Vids helps to generate videos and presentations.

According to Google, all of the government data will be kept private and confidential. What do you think about this? If government offices utilize generative AI like Gemini in Google Workspaces does this make you also want to explore how to use it?
