Today, Google is proud to present a new feature for Google Maps called Motorcycle Mode. As the name suggests, this feature is designed to help Malaysian motorcyclists to get around with better navigation and traffic across the country. And it's free, obviously.
If you live in Kuala Lumpur, you would know that there are some road segments where motorcycles aren't allowed to venture. So with this, you won't have to do a mental calculation to estimate your arrival time based on a combination of walking and driving routes. Also, motorcycles move at different speeds and are usually faster than four-wheelers in heavy traffic, which will get a more accurate estimated time to reach the destination via Motorcycle Mode.

Director, Google Maps for Next Billion Users Suren Ruhela said: “We want to provide the most local and relevant experience to meet people's needs. We're pleased to offer a new feature that we hope makes getting around on a motorcycle in Malaysia a little easier. We want to help riders get to where they want to go reliably and confidently and keep Malaysia on the move.”
So to wrap it up, the new Motorcycle Mode in Google Maps offers:
- More accurate travel times based on machine learning models that reflect riding speeds. The estimation improves the more people use it
- Landmark-based navigation: directions include prominent landmarks that help people with pre-trip planning to orient themselves and remember their routes
To get this new update, make sure you have updated your Google Maps to the latest version or clear the cache in the settings. If you haven't received it, just wait for it as the rollout takes time. Stay tuned for more Google news at TechNave.com.
