Google is updating its Google Maps platform with a slew of helpful new features that would make your journey easier and more convenient. These include showing users toll prices before they start navigating and even display traffic lights on the selected route.

Shared by Google Maps Proudct Manager, Rubén Lozano-Aguilera in a blogpost yesterday, toll prices for nearly 2000 toll roads in Indonesia, Japan, India and the US will start to be shown this month. Furthermore, it will make its way to other countries, including Malaysia ‘soon’.

Besides that, Google Maps is also adding more details on the platform so that users can navigate new roads with ease. Soon, you’ll start seeing traffic lights and stop signs along your route, as well as enhanced details like building outlines and areas of interest.

Google Maps will even show ‘the shape and width of a road’ in select cities, including medians and islands. These improved maps update will be released in the ‘coming weeks’ on Android, Android Auto, iOS and Apple’s CarPlay.

Speaking of Apple, Google Maps is also rolling out updates specific to Apple devices as well. These include a new widget for the iOS app that lets users access trips pinned to the ‘Go’ tab which will be available in the coming weeks.

A new update is also coming to the Google Maps Apple Watch app, which will let users get directions to any of their Google Maps shortcuts just by tapping the shortcut on their Apple Watch. This particular feature is expected to roll out in ‘a few weeks’.

Looks like some pretty solid updates for Google Maps! Definitely one of the better quality-of-life updates we’ve seen so far on the platform.
