Google has announced several new features for Google Play aimed at improving how users discover, purchase, and play paid games across both mobile and PC platforms. The updates introduce game trials, cross-platform purchases, and new community features designed to enhance the overall gaming experience.
Game Trials Let Players Try Paid Games for Free
One of the key additions is Game Trials, which allows users to try the full version of select paid games before deciding whether to purchase them. This feature lets players experience the game risk-free, and if they decide to buy it, their progress will carry over so they can continue from where they left off. Game Trials will initially roll out to selected paid titles on mobile devices, with support for Google Play Games on PC planned for the future.
“Buy Once, Play Anywhere” Across Mobile and PC
Google is also introducing a new pricing model called “Buy once, play anywhere.” With this feature, purchasing a game on Google Play will grant access to both the mobile and PC versions through Google Play Games. This approach removes the need for players to purchase the same game separately on different platforms. Some early titles that support this system include the Reigns series, OTTTD, and Dungeon Clawler.
More Tools to Discover and Master Games
In addition to the new purchase options, Google Play is also introducing features designed to help players engage more deeply with games. These include Community Posts, where users can ask questions and share tips with other players directly within the Play Store.
Another upcoming feature is Play Games Sidekick, an AI-powered assistant that can provide gameplay tips and guidance while players are in the game. The system is designed to deliver contextual suggestions without requiring players to leave their gameplay session.
Expanding the Paid Games Library
Google says it is also working to expand the catalogue of premium titles available on the platform. Several indie games are expected to launch on Google Play in 2026, including Moonlight Peaks, Sledding Game, and Low-Budget Repairs. For more information, you can visit Google's blog right here.
