You read that correctly. Starting on 15 June 2025, Google has announced that Google Play gift cards will no longer be available for purchase in Malaysia. However, users who have purchased gift cards prior to this date can redeem them and use their Google Play balance until 31 January 2026.
No reason was given in its statement, but users are advised to redeem them into their Google Play balance before the deadline. Google Play will continue to accept other payment methods, including e-wallets, credit cards, mobile phone billing, online banking via FPX, and cash payments. Promotional Google Play balances will continue to be issued or held according to their respective expiration dates.
Additionally, users who have set their Google Play balance as the primary payment method for subscriptions are encouraged to update their payment information to prevent service disruptions. Google also gave a warning about gift card scams, as scammers use a variety of methods to trick people into giving away their gift cards.
