Google Play will show warnings if the app uses excessive battery power

After being announced last year, Google has now started displaying warning boxes on app pages in the Play Store that are identified as causing excessive battery usage. So, what should you know about it?

A nice reminder for those who prioritise battery life

For your information, this update was introduced on March 1. The warning box will display the message "This app may use more battery than expected due to high background activity." Although the message is quite general, it actually refers to an app that consistently exceeds the "Excessive Partial Wake Lock" threshold in the Android system.

Additionally, Partial Wake Lock is a mechanism that ensures that the phone's processor (CPU) continues to run even when the screen is off, and the app is not being used directly. Google acknowledges that this mechanism is necessary for certain features and situations, but some apps use it excessively, affecting battery consumption.

Moreover, this change aims to encourage the development of more energy-efficient Android apps by encouraging developers to improve how apps handle background processes. In addition to displaying warnings to users, apps identified as using excessive battery power can also potentially be removed from the recommended list on Google Play.

Indirectly, users can identify applications that may be using the battery excessively and help ensure more efficient device battery usage in the long term.
