Google Tensor G2 uses Samsung's 5nm process instead of 4nm

The Google Pixel 7 series finally arrived last week after so many rumours. However, the company might have covered up something that you might want to know, and it's the size of the process that the Tensor G2 uses.

Many thought the Tensor G2 would manufacture based on the most advanced 4nm process. Unfortunately, the chip gets found to be based on Samsung's 5nm manufacturing process instead. It explains why it only brings a 10% improvement over its predecessor. The Tensor G2 didn't have its clock speed increase significantly. Its Arm Cortex-X1 core runs at 2.85GHz, which is only 50MHz higher than the original previous Tensor's 2.80GHz.

It's worth mentioning that Google did not officially disclose Samsung being the foundry. However, there are still pieces of evidence enough to prove so. The two have collaborated for many years, and the Tensor chips also use Samsung's achievements in the field. However, it's unclear which process the Tensor G2 uses as Samsung has two 5nm nodes: the 5LPE process used by the original Tensor chips and a newer 5LPP.
