Google has announced a new feature on Google Voice which adds a red “suspected spam caller” warning for calls that are believed to be spam. This was made so as to protect users from unwanted calls and potentially harmful scams.
In a blog post yesterday (29 December 2022), the tech giant elaborated that it makes this determination by using the same advanced artificial intelligence (AI) that identifies billions of spam calls each month across Google’s calling ecosystem. The new labels appear on the Google Voice incoming call screen and in the user’s call history.
If users received the labels, they can either confirm a suspected spam call or mark a labelled call as not spam. For the former, it will cause future calls from that number to go directly to voicemail and call history entries to be put in the spam folder. If you choose the latter, the suspected spam label is never displayed for that number again.
