Arriving earlier than usual, Google has officially announced the stable release of Android 16. The schedule is for Q2 of 2025, with indications pointing to a potential rollout on 3 June.
This information was shared during a press briefing preceding "The Android Show," where Allen Huang, Google's Director of Product Management for Pixel and Android system UI, confirmed the timeline. While the exact date remains unconfirmed, it's anticipated that a formal announcement will be made at the upcoming Google I/O event starting on 20 May 2025.
Android 16 is expected to introduce several new features, including the Material 3 Expressive design language, which will debut later this year on Pixel devices. This design aims to enhance personalisation with improved animations, typography, and dynamic colour themes. More details about the next OS update can be read here.
Google plans the rollout to target Pixel devices first, followed by other manufacturers like Samsung anticipated to follow suit. Reports suggest that Samsung is preparing its Android 16-based One UI 8 beta, which could be released as early as this month.
This earlier-than-usual release aligns with Google's strategy to synchronise Android updates with device launch schedules, aiming to provide users with timely access to the latest features and improvements. For more information, you can visit the Android developers blog here to check it out.
