With how widely used smartphones are these days, it makes sense for the OS to be updated fastest. On the other hand, Wear OS seems to have gotten the short end of the stick in recent years, as it is still stuck on Android 9. But now Google seems to be ready for a major upgrade to Wear OS.

According to 9to5Google, Google confirmed that they are working on upgrading Wear OS to Android 11. In an Android 11 AMA, the company mentioned that it's still "very excited about wearable tech", particularly smartwatches and fitness trackers. When asked about Wear OS, Google hinted that they're working on getting it to work with Android 11 APIs.

Besides that, Google also seems to be hinting that they're interested in the "intersection of wearables and home automation". If Google were to develop in this direction, we could see more Wear OS devices being given direct control over smart home devices. The OS for non-smartphone Android devices may not be all that simple to integrate, however, as Google has said that these devices are not tied to the Android OS framework.

What this means for wearables and smart home devices remain to be seen, but we'd like to see more of the Android ecosystem becoming unified. But what do you think, what kind of integration would you like to see with such devices? Share your thoughts with us on our Facebook page and stay tuned to TechNave.com for more news.
