Google might be planning to make a detachable version of the Nest Hub. According to 9to5Google, a new Nest Hub that features a dockable tablet form factor where the screen separates from a base/speaker is currently in the works and could launch in 2022.

The tech giant has brought quite a few tablet features to the existing smart displays. In the last few months, both the 2nd-gen Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max received more tablet-like interface elements, such as swiping up from the bottom of the screen to reveal a row of "apps" above the settings bar and opening a fullscreen grid of icons from there. Besides that, Google also added a richer browser to the products that made them look more like a tablet. Therefore, it might have already started to hint that the Nest Hub will move into the tablet segment.

However, it's unclear which operating system the company will use on the upcoming product. The source mentions that Chrome OS is likely too power-hungry (and costly) and would cause conflicts to the affordability of Nest devices, while Android would open the door to existing apps and the Play Store.
