Google has reportedly laid off hundreds of employees from its platforms and devices unit, which is responsible for developing Android software, Pixel devices and the Chrome browser. So, what should you know about it?

According to a report by The Information, the layoffs followed a voluntary separation scheme offered by Google to employees in the unit in January.

"Since merging our platform and device teams last year, we've focused on becoming more agile and operating more efficiently. This has included reducing our workforce, in addition to the voluntary separation program we offered in January," a Google spokesperson told The Information.

Previously, in February, Bloomberg reported that Google had also laid off some of its staff in the cloud division but stated that the round of layoffs only affected a few teams. We have yet to confirm other details on the news. Hopefully, everything will be sorted out soon.
