Some of you must be familiar with the brand ADT, if you totally have no clue, you might have seen its logo somewhere. ADT is a company which is known for offering home security or even business security through their alarm system. Now, it has been announced that Google will be investing 450 Million USD (~RM1.9 Billion) in the security company.
Not just investing financially, Google will also be integrating their Nest products in the installation of the ADT system. According to the Vice President and GM at Nest Rishi Chandra, the Nest products will help to "give customers fewer false alarms, more ways to receive alarm events, and better detection of potential incidents inside and around the home. It will also provide people with more helpful notifications that make everyday life more convenient, like package detection."
With the investment and collaboration, Google now owns a 6.6% stake in ADT. It will be a long-term investment for both of the companies to reach more individual consumers and small businesses, and then work on building and selling next-generation smart home security offerings.
