Google is developing a mini taskbar for Android phones

If you have an Android tablet, you may have noticed how the software differs from that of an Android phone. Specifically, Android tablets have a taskbar on the home screen for easier multitasking. Google has been working on an Android phone version of this feature, and we have a glimpse of how it currently looks.

As shared by Android Authority, the Android phone taskbar feature is called "tiny taskbar" in Google. Like its tablet counterpart, the tiny taskbar displays recently used apps in a carousel and seems to appear by swiping up from the bottom of the screen. This allows users to quickly pick a specific app to switch to. It's also faster than the standard Android smartphone navigation method.

Unfortunately, this feature doesn't work that well, so Google hasn't released it yet. Since Google is developing a desktop mode for Android phones, the tiny taskbar feature could be released along with desktop mode. While desktop mode has been confirmed for Android 16, the tiny taskbar probably won't be released anytime soon.

For some Android smartphone users, the tiny taskbar and desktop mode combo could be an appealing laptop alternative. Let us know what you think of that in the comments below, and stay tuned to TechNave for more news like this.
