Recently, Google advised Pixel 6A owners to download a specific update for their device to address a heating issue that users have reported. After the update was downloaded, battery capacity was reduced.

Same issue as the Pixel 4A

For your information, this is the second incident of Google issuing an update that reduces battery capacity, following a similar issue reported by Pixel 4A owners in January.

According to Google, the issue only occurs after the battery has gone through 400 charge cycles. In addition to capacity, battery charging performance is also reduced through the update. Customers affected by this issue will be contacted by Google for further information.

Moreover, the update was pushed out to Pixel 6A owners after two incidents of the device randomly catching fire surfaced on social media.

Additionally, this is similar to the update that Samsung gave to Galaxy Note 7 owners who refused to return their devices due to exploding batteries. Samsung then took the drastic step of permanently disabling the Galaxy Note 7's charging capabilities to stop the use of this risky device.
