Google now owns Fitbit, could launch in-house fitness trackers in 2021

Back in November 2019, Google announced a deal to acquire Fitbit for USD 2.1 billion (~RM8.47 billion). That didn't happen because US regulators claimed that Google was aiming to use the data from Fitbit users to sell ads. Unfortunately, Google seems to have won this time, as it has successfully completed the move.

Despite the antitrust investigations, Fitbit is now officially under Google. The question some may ask is: Would Google honour its promise of not using the data? We don't know that yet. But what we know is that the acquisition would expand Google's network of connected devices. With the Fitbit team, Google can now launch its own fitness trackers and smartwatches.

If you consider Fitbit's recent launch, we can probably expect new models of the Fitbit Sense, Versa, and Inspire series in the coming years. They are excellent fitness trackers with sensors that can detect your heart-rate, sleep patterns, and more. In fact, the new Fitbit Sense even comes with an electrodermal activity (EDA) sensor, which can help detect your stress levels.

It's unknown when Google will unveil new Fitbit-made fitness trackers, but we hope to see some news in the coming months. With Google's deep pockets, maybe Fitbit can make much better products. But what do you think? Let us know in the comments and stay tuned to TechNave for more news like this.
