Google's new Airdrop clone feature - Nearby Sharing - is in development for Android 11

Google employees may be working remotely from home, but they are also developing Android 11 as we speak. In this latest update, the second developer preview of Android 11 has been rolled out by the company and one of the highlighted features is an AirDrop-like function. Previously known as Fast Share, it has been renamed to Nearby Sharing but it could be a placeholder name for now. Anyway, here's what we know.

As the name suggests, Fast Share allows two phones (in this case, two Pixel phones) to transfer media files or data with each other seamlessly. However, it is still far from being finished as there are still some bug issues. Sources say the note reads "the operation completes successfully, but the UI on the device which receives the file states that it did not receive the file". XDADevelopers also made a YouTube video on the first look at Nearby Sharing, which shows that you can also use other Android phones as long as Google Mobile Services is available. But at this stage, Google could change their minds anytime.

Anyway, the feature should be available on older Android OS as well so Android users will be able to share files effortlessly without Bluetooth. Until then, stay tuned for more Android news at TechNave.com.
