Google to group news by relevance with help of machine learning

In the next big Google Search update, the company plans to make looking through news and stories easier. By applying the latest in machine learning technology to top stories, Google should be able to make it so that relevant stories are group together.

According to a new Google blog post, relevant articles to a particular search will be arranged in a carousel-style in the next update. Also, Google will be organising other related stories or news. Let's take the example given by Google to illustrate. If you search for "NASA news", not only would you get news about NASA in a carousel group, you would also get other carousel groups of news related to NASA like "NASA detects water vapour on Jupiter’s moon Europa".

The idea is to provide you with multiple sources of the same news, which can give you a variety of perspectives on topics searched. Of course, since this is done via machine learning, we're not sure how effective this would be in the early stages. The new search feature is already available for mobile users in the US in English and is expected to roll out to other regions in other languages within the next few months.

This is a feature that's very useful for us, but what about you? Let us know on our Facebook page whether you find this relevant to you. Also, stay tuned to TechNave.com for other news like this.
